What is treatment like? Extremely fine, hair-thin, flexible, single-use sterilized disposable needles are placed at specific points on the body. When the needles are inserted you may experience a sensation of tingling or warmth. People are surprised to find that treatments are actually quite relaxing. 

Is it safe? 
Yes  - the needles are FDA approved, individually packaged, pre-sterilized and disposed after a single use.

How long do the treatments take?
In most situations treatments take between 30 and 60 minutes. The length of the treatment depends on the individual conditions of the patient.

How many treatments will I need? 
The length and frequency of a treatment will vary for each individual and will be determined by your acupuncturist. Factors that contribute to treatment frequency are the condition you are being treated for, the severity and duration of the condition, and your individual response to acupuncture. As you improve, fewer visits are required. Your acupuncturist will discuss your treatment plan with you, since each individual is different. 

How quickly will I notice a difference?
Some individuals notice a difference during or immediately following their first acupuncture treatment. Other individuals will take up to 4-6 weeks to notice improvements.  We recommend a treatment plan of at least once a week, for 4-6 weeks consistently, followed by a re-evaluation to determine your continued course of treatment.

Will it conflict with my medications? 
Acupuncture will not conflict with any of your medications. Acupuncture is used to complement and supplement your physician’s treatments, NOT TO REPLACE THEM. You should discuss this issue with your physician and acupuncturist.

What should I wear to my acupuncture treatment?
You will be laying on an acupuncture table (face-up or face-down) for approximately 45 minutes.  Please wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing.

Will insurance cover my acupuncture treatments?
Insurance coverage for acupuncture varies drastically between providers and plans; call your specific insurance provider to determine if your plan covers acupuncture. Family Wellness Center currently does not bill insurance providers, however, we would be more than happy to provide you with any paper necessary to help ease the process. Additionally, acupuncture is considered a qualifying medical expense under most Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Saving Account (HSA) plans.
